On Tuesday, March 12, 2024, excitement filled the air as students from Pike County High Schools gathered at the annual Quiz Bowl Tournament hosted by Ross Pike Educational Service District at the Pike County CTC. This year's battle of the minds saw Eastern High School, coached by Kathy Osborne, emerge victorious, with Piketon High School, coached by Olivia Day, securing a commendable second place. The tournament showcases the academic prowess and teamwork skills of participating students from Pike County schools including Eastern, Piketon, Waverly, and Western. All students who participated demonstrated their commitment to academic excellence and their love for intellectual challenges. Congratulations to Eastern High School for their outstanding performance, and kudos to all the participating schools for their dedication and enthusiasm!
After an illuminating dive into the wonders of marine life in our gifted classrooms, we were excited to take our gifted students on a field trip to COSI’s Creatures of Light: Nature’s Bioluminescence exhibit to explore the fascinating world of bioluminescence firsthand along with all the other learning opportunities COSI has to offer!

Eastern Triumphs at Pike County 6th Grade Quiz Bowl Tournament
In a battle of wits and quick thinking, Eastern emerged victorious at the annual Pike County sixth grade Quiz Bowl Tournament held on March 7, 2024. The competition, which included teams from Western, Waverly, Piketon, and Eastern, showcased the intellectual prowess of the sixth-grade participants.
Under the guidance of Coach Kim Brown, the Eastern team demonstrated exceptional knowledge and teamwork throughout the tournament. With quick reflexes and a firm grasp of a wide range of subjects, they tackled challenging questions with confidence, ultimately clinching the top spot.
A close contender in the competition was the Waverly sixth grade team, led by Coach Dawn Smith. The Waverly team put up a valiant effort, showcasing their own depth of knowledge and strategic thinking. Their impressive performance secured them the second-place position in the tournament.
The event provided a chance for friendly competition and emphasized the importance of critical thinking, teamwork, and sportsmanship among the students. Participants displayed remarkable enthusiasm and dedication, making the tournament a memorable experience for all involved.

The Pike County Spelling Bee was held on Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Ross-Pike Educational Service Center. Students from Eastern, Piketon, and Western Schools competed for the coveted title of spelling champion.
After twelve rounds of competition, Jacey Tinney, a seventh grader from Piketon Jr. High emerged victorious, clinching the title of Pike County Spelling Bee Champion. Jace displayed remarkable composure as he correctly spelled the championship word, "completely," securing his place as the top speller in the county. Zain Brigner, a sixth grader from Eastern earned a second-place title, and Kendal Stephan, a sixth grader from Eastern earned third place. Congratulations to each of these students for a well-deserved victory!
The Ross County Spelling Bee was held on Monday, February 26, 2024, at the Ross-Pike Educational Service Center. Students from Adena, Huntington, Southeastern, Unioto, and Zane Trace competed for the coveted title of spelling champion.
After twenty-one rounds of competition, Lily Smith, a sixth grader from Zane Trace emerged victorious, clinching the title of Ross County Spelling Bee Champion. Lily displayed remarkable composure as she correctly spelled the championship word, "laundromat," securing her place as the top speller in the county. Alyson Ashcroft, a seventh grader from Adena earned a second-place title, and Mya Vickers, a seventh grader from Southeastern earned third place. Congratulations to each of these ladies for a well-deserved victory!
The Ross County Spelling Bee not only celebrates academic excellence but also fosters a spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship among participants. Each of the winners was presented with a trophy and medal, and the first-place winner was awarded a $50 gift card provided by Ross County Banking Center. Thank you to all participants, coaches, and school districts that made this event possible!

The Ross-Pike ESD is excited to start the 2023-2024 school year! We will be hosting our All Staff Meeting on August 14, 2023 beginning at 8:30 am. All staff should report to the Ross Office, 475 Western Ave, Chillicothe.
Ross-Pike ESD and Pickaway County ESC are holding an in-person OTES 2.0 training. You must attend all three days.
