Congratulations to the winning teams of the 2026 Pike County Quiz Bowl Tournament! The Eastern Eagles took home first place, led by their coach, Kathy Osborne. The Waverly Tigers earned a hard-fought second place, led by coach Daniell Penrod.


The 6th Grade Pike County Quiz Bowl tournament was so much fun today! All of the teams did a fantastic job competing in their very first tournament, and it was great to see their hard work pay off.
After five rounds of competition, Piketon, coached by Jared Williams, finished as the first-place champions, and Eastern, coached by Erika Tuuri, took home the second-place award. Congratulations to all of the teams and coaches!

It was an exciting day at the Pike County Jr. High Quiz Bowl Tournament sponsored by Ross Pike ESD. Piketon, Waverly, Eastern, and Western all brought their A-game, making for some incredibly tough rounds.
At the end of the day, the Eastern team, coached by Erika Tuuri, was the tournament champions.
Waverly, coached by Daniel Penrod and Wendy Fosson, earned second place.

The Ross County Spelling Bee was an intense competition held on March 3, 2026, at the Ohio University Chillicothe campus. Organized by the Ross-Pike ESD, the event showcased the academic talents of Ross County students through 36 rounds of competition.
Lane Cyrus from Southeastern claimed the first-place title after correctly spelling the championship word, “syndrome”. Addi Hughes of Adena earned second place, and Aubrey Johnston from Zane Trace took home the third-place honors.

After a challenging competition of 20 rounds, Karleigh Brigner, a sixth-grade student from Eastern, claimed first place by correctly spelling the winning word, “Frankenstein.” Asher Knisley, a fifth-grade student from Western, earned second place, and Claire Swords, an eighth-grade student from Eastern, finished in third place. All three students demonstrated exceptional preparation, focus, and composure throughout the event.
Thank you to Piketon High School for generously hosting this year’s spelling bee and providing a welcoming venue for students and families. We also extend our appreciation to Ohio Valley Bank for their generous donation to support prizes for the winners.

This competitive national grant supports innovative Place-Based Education projects that connect classroom learning to local communities.
Thanks to this award, our gifted students will engage in meaningful, community-centered learning experiences that highlight the strengths, history, and opportunities of our region.
