Ohio Related Services Virtual Meet-Up #9

The Office for Exceptional Children (OEC) at the Ohio Department of Education is hosting the ninth in a series of virtual Meet-Ups for special education related services professionals during the 2021-2022 school year. Special education law states that IEP Teams, in the case of a child whose behavior impedes the child’s learning or that of others, consider the use of positive behavior interventions and supports, and other strategies to address that behavior. This Meet-Up will focus on behavior starring Emily Menker,  Education Program Specialist in Dispute Resolution. Emily has a PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports) background and she investigates complaints about restraint and seclusion.  In this Meet-Up we will address:

Discipline of students with disabilities

Manifestation Determination Reviews (MDRs)

Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs)

Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)

Restraint and Seclusion

Team process and how related service providers contribute

If you have questions about behavior you would like addressed in this presentation, send them to Bernadette Laughlin at Bernadette.Laughlin@education.ohio.gov  by June 1, 2022. Participants may also ask questions during the Meet-Up.

This Meet-Up is geared to special education related service professionals, teachers, and administrators, but all are welcome to attend! Registration is not required. Contact Bernadette Laughlin at Bernadette.Laughlin@education.ohio.gov  for more information.
