September 10, 2009

Nine area educators from five local school buildings were among 300 selected to receive Governor's Awards for Excellence in Youth Science Opportunities for the 2008-09 school year.

To qualify for the honor, schools had to have conducted a local science fair with 20 or more students, sent at least one of those students to one of the Ohio Academy of Science' s 16 district science days and involved students in one or more youths experience opportunities beyond the classroom.

In Ross County and the surrounding area, listed as receiving the honor were Kara Norris, of Bishop Flaget School; Lorna Buskirk, of Unioto Junior/Senior High; Gary Peters, Jason Clark, John Scott and Jennifer Moore, of Zane Trace High School; Brooke Detty and Dennis Foreman, of Zane Trace Middle School; and Steve Cochran, of Jackson High School.

ODE will be issuing special Governor's Award certificates to the honorees.
