The Pike County Spelling Bee was held February 3, 2009 at the
Pike County Career and Technology Center. Fifty-one students,
grades five through eight, from Eastern Local, Scioto Valley Local
and Western Local competed for the title of Spelling Bee Champion.
Each student qualified for the county bee by competing in a
spelling bee at their school.
This event, sponsored by the Ross-Pike ESD, First National Bank,
Ohio Valley Bank and the News Watchman, was organized by Alison
Sayre, curriculum supervisor at the Ross-Pike ESD.
Awards consisting of trophies and money were awarded to the top
three spellers. First place went to Makenzie Moorman of Zahn’s
Middle School. Receiving second place honors was Alexandria
Hatfield of Eastern. The third place speller was Abigail Crothers
of Zahn’s Middle School. Congratulations go out to all
participants.
A special thanks to Christina Martin-Wisecup, Grant Writer of the
Ross-Pike ESD, who served as pronouncer and judges Cathy Williams,
Linda Miller and Vicky Hayslip. In addition, a special thanks to
the staff at Pike County CTC for their help and use of
facility.
